232 years ago…. according to this [US] Immigrant

July 3rd, 2008 by Dele

Yes!, when I came into the USA years ago as an immigrant from West Africa (Nigeria), the ways of the whites felt strange to me.
I’m African, cultured and nurtured - then - I’ve grown into whites, reds, greens, whatever the color.
For a country like the United States of America, a country that liberated me and many others. Giving us opportunity we could have only dreamed of; and today, from the mind of this immigrant I say: “Happy Birthday!”
Oh, say can you see,
By the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed
At the twilight’s last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars,
Through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched
Were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare,
The bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there.
O, say, does that
Star-Spangled Banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free
And the home of the brave?
