One Man and a Trip I

Friday, August 8th, 2008

When I was coming over to Turkey, I definitely wasn’t sure what to expect and right off the bat, even before leaving Boston, it indicating it might be interesting.

Routing
Boston,US - Frankfurt,DE
The plane ride was fun - One thing I can say: flying Business Class long-haul; on Lufthansa - you can’t ask for anything better.
I happen to be in Germany for like some 5 hours, actually, it wasn’t supposed to be but I meet this Kazakhstani chic whom I was hanging out with for a little while hence, missed my connection, not bad, I had some good time in her company. I leant one lesson though, Europe is DAMN FREAKING expensive (or was it because I was in an high-end area?).
Frankfurt,DE - Istanbul,TR
After some two hours, I’m in my final destination - Istanbul, Turkey. Ataturk Airport was straight forward, the signs where in English and Turkish, clearing immigration wasn’t hectic and finding my way around was bad either - or - wait! I was almost ripped off 40 TRY ($34.03). One way to avoid being ripped off over here, as I found out is:
1. Don’t look too touristic!
2. Know where you are going or at least have some contact you can call to give certain directions.
The later solution worked for me. The hostel I was going to be residing is located in Taksim which would cost 10 TRY but most of the shuttles around the Airport were trying to charge me between 50 - 80 TRY.
I called the hotel, they told me to ignore those offers (they would brand it door-to-door) and take the bus that reads Avas[h]. I did that and was on my way.

Welcome to Istanbul
This is an intro, I’m yet to see anything or take interesting. Upon my arrival though, I meet this Malaysian guy with whom we went on some walk around the city and tried out some Turkish food (yum-yum) - really good stuff! Taksim, especially the street I was on, is a very, very busy place, especially at night - this, I guess would make for some action.

Interesting notes
It might interest you to know that some websites are blocked in this country, those I have noticed so far is:
1. YouTube : www.youtube.com
2. My Site: www.zenecherub.com

Oh! You may wonder, then how was I able to make this post - Luckily, there is an easy way around those restriction - www.vtunnel.com - and you are home free.

I’m black and in some way is has some good and bad. Howbeit, the goods seem to outweigh the bad. The very interesting thing I noticed is that, I seem to almost be the only black person that walks the street so far!
With this, it seems that I get quite some attention. It even got to its peek when some random girl suddenly came over and touched my face (Gosh!) - I don’t mind that…hey, she was cute! My Malaysian friend quickly advised me get get used to it or if I like, play along and get some groove on.

232 years ago…. according to this [US] Immigrant

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Yes!, when I came into the USA years ago as an immigrant from West Africa (Nigeria), the ways of the whites felt strange to me.
I’m African, cultured and nurtured - then - I’ve grown into whites, reds, greens, whatever the color.
For a country like the United States of America, a country that liberated me and many others. Giving us opportunity we could have only dreamed of; and today, from the mind of this immigrant I say: “Happy Birthday!”
Oh, say can you see,
By the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed
At the twilight’s last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars,
Through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched
Were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare,
The bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there.
O, say, does that
Star-Spangled Banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free
And the home of the brave?

The Computer Science Waste-able

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

We can decide to think in 1000 0011 1011 0111* (bin) or ‘\407331* (oct) ( or maybe ‘\x83b7* (hex). It’s not necessarily the point if it’s not likely that making a career in this kind of stuff would take you anywhere.

Being a Computer Science major most of my college life even till this point, I recently started to re-think my position on a future career. I’m quite sure that for the short-sighted, they may be quite content in getting an As in courses courtsey ceaseless cramming, and let’s see … outside the school circle, outside the academic walls, what lies in beyond? They’ll respond, “We’d cross that bridge when we get there.” I just think about that and think: Hopefully, there will still a bridge to cross, why not start crossing the bridge gradually?

Wait, looks like I’m sounding too vague. Simplistically, I have finally discovered that even though I love computers, programming and some of those fun stuff, I have been proved wrong that this is not the field I should be in! I in fact discovered, I have a talent for something way out of the field. A talent which, my quest into the computer science world would understate [grossly].

Let’s Walkthrough the result of my recent industrial test:
industrial_test

industrial_test II
So that might mean, Computer Science shouldn’t have been an option or is this test not trust-worthy?

industrial_test III

Ok, seems this analysis was pretty trust-worthy not only in what it self, but again in what I know of myself… So what does all these sum up to?

industrial_test V

And one last…

industrial_test VI

I understand those questions that’ll be asked? Despite all those relatively advanced computer science you’ve taken? How come you just found that out now? Aren’t you confused at this point? The answer is simple: there are something you just don’t realize just at face value or some other that you “think” might just work out despite sacrificing some innate longings and being naive to admit.

So while I now know that I’d succeed more in a field that does not restrict me “working on” computers, maybe trapped behind some cubicle, I’d prefer one where I can lead, be in management, organize, write and some fun problem-solving stuff.

Oh, and to satisfy curiosity, computing and programming/designs still stays with me [while I get definite about a major and maybe a Masters] - as an hobby.

*decode that number if you may, ASCII?

An Eulogy to my Fallen Soldier [Dotun Fodoju, Apr. 1986- Nov. 2007]

How are the mighty fallen
And their weapons of war - destroyed!

There can be many a friend,

But not one like you

Not one that would have touched my life

The times we had together,

The funs we had

The Bad and the Good

The Sweet and the Sour

Not until you started loosing your fight to Cancer

It might seem that you lost it

But to us you didn’t

A fight is only lost when we visualize it lost

We don’t visualize it lost

Even though we cannot be physical again

We never can have those fun time

Never have those good times,

Never live to see ourselves dream come to life

There is one thing we sure realized

Life is but a journey - with a start and a finish -

You walked yours

You gave it your best

The best in the capacity of the life you have touched

To a point that you have made it clear,

It’s not about the figures we accumulate on our ages

It the figures we accumulate through our influences on people

You’ve challenged us, We look to it and live to it

Even as you’re not here anymore,

We your friends [from the “crib”] will all miss you

Sola (a.k.a nErDYMONK), Victor and Dele -

Still in shocked, you have most importantly thought us -

We should teach ourselves to number our days

And most importantly,

Apply our minds to wisdom - We just can’t tell -

Who’s next?

And for the question you often asked me (Dele) that I never answered,

Yes, I love your sister but probably Sola( nErDYMONK) will take care of her.

Odabo! with Love you!

Dedicated to my friend who passed on few days ago after a long battle with Cancer -

Recently, my dad was beaming with smiles when he announced to me I got an invitation -uuh? For what, I asked. He decided not to tell my anxious self, told me when he’s done with the letter he’d give it to me (which was actually addressed to my parents).

While I’m always critical of school system - it’s actually what got me this nomination. I was been nominated as a delegate to attend a technology summit in Beijing, China for summer 2008.

deansLetter

As much as I would love to go for this summit (or conference), one major factor was, you guessed it - the cost. This invitation proves the point I would always keep making. Their is a price for becoming smarter - this price is not necessarily in terms of standing out, being very inquisitive, or any other factor, but in terms of money.

tutionDean

With a total cost of $5, 120, how can I dare afford that! But tons of students like me who got this invitation might be there, getting the edge they are used to getting, why? - they (or their parents) can afford it. Which makes the point (applies to top-notch scholars too) - they are there not because they are the most gifted, most talented, they are because they (or their parents) have being affording the financial load.

Since I can’t go to this conference because I don’t have $5,120. I’m thinking of 5,120 things I can do if I get $5,120.

1st Anniversary as a blogger

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

So, all said and written, yesterday (November 1, 2007) marked my 1st year anniversary as a blogger.

As already stated in a previous post about the pitiful situation that caused all my blog post prior to Oct. 3rd, 2007 all gone! Gone forever! Seemed like I had to start from the beginning again but anyways… In my mind, it’s one year ago, I started hitting the internet with my mind and random thought.

Just not so good I can’t do blast-from-the-past to those unpolished and naive posts.

Patiently awaiting the next year. And, sincere thanks to those who encouraged and supported my work - I can’t thank you enough.

Back to School headache :P

School, school, school

Who would help my school

Some help for girls and some for boys,

Who would help my school.

Funny how I remembered that rhyme from pre-school I think. But it’s explaining a point, I’m getting so bugged down by school work, my job-job and my hobby-job so much that I need some hands.

School work: Salem State College (Comp. Sc. - Sophomore)

Job-job: L.G.A.

Hobby-job: web designs/coding.

Oh! care to check out my most recent design? Drop by 3 in One Photography (still a work in progress though)

server

With displeasure do I announce the loss of my prior blog which would, if still in existence, will be one year next month. After close to a year of writing, writing and writing, I had a serious crash on my web server and all that took me months to get together all GONE!

With enough pain in my heart, I decided to put my acts together and move on. Hence, even though my blog was killed online, they can’t kill the spirit. Here again is my new blog – zenecherub.com, all revitalized, better and stronger.

As usual, I will be writing on the most random and thought provoking issues ranging from technology to afterlife, not excluding some nice pranks you never thought you can do, but really can. Despite what happened, I will still be celebrating my first year anniversary as a blogger, though no concrete reason to, I will still do it nevertheless.

On a final note, if you love this site and some of its contents, don’t forget to give me a buzz.

For all those supporting me, thanks a lot, very, very soon, in one of my posts, credits will be rolled.

Stay connected!
